Thursday, 20th October 2011 by Clare BoltonLatin Lawyer′s M&A Conference, taking place in São Paulo on 6 December, has an early confirmed list of speakers including CADE, UBS, BM&F Bovespa, AmBev, Walmart and major local and international law firms.

This is our second annual conference, co-chaired by Paul Schnell and Richard Aldrich of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and Francisco Müssnich and Paulo Aragão of Barbosa Müssnich & Aragão. Last year′s event sold out, and now the programme has been released, this year′s looks to be even more of a success.

Fernando Furlan, the outgoing president of CADE, will be there to give his perspective on Brazil′s introduction of pre-merger rules, while the head of UBS Investment Bank Brazil, Eduardo Centola, will help us forecast the M&A trends for 2012. Pedro Mariani, general counsel of AmBev, and Gonzalo Smith, Latin American general counsel for Walmart Stores, will provide the client point of view, while the general counsel for BM&F Bovespa, Henrique Vergara, will provide give the institutional inside track on avoiding disputes, and how to win them if you do end up in arbitration.

From international firms, senior lawyers such as Sergio Galvis from Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, Chadbourne & Parke LLP′s Allen Miller, and Todd Crider from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP have already confirmed. Meanwhile, from Brazilian firms, Carlos Mello of Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados, Marcelo Calliari of TozziniFreire Advogados, João Ricardo de Azevedo Ribeiro of Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados and Gilberto Guisti of Pinheiro Neto Advogados will also be bringing their specific expertise to the programme.

From around the region, Marcelo Bombau from M & M Bomchil in Argentina, Alejandro Linares of Gómez-Pinzón Zuleta Abogados SA in Colombia, Peruvian Jose Daniel Amada of Miranda & Amado Abogados, Francisco Ugarte of Carey y Cía in Chile and Enrique Bruchou of Bruchou, Fernández Madero & Lombardi of Argentina will also be taking part.

At the close of the event, all delegates are invited to the annual party of CESA (Centro de Estudos dos Sociedades de Advogados), the pre-eminent association of law firms, which is held in the Jockey Club in São Paulo.
