Brazilian businessman Michael Klein has hired Spinelli Advogados to buy a stake in retailer Via Varejo through a public auction, which drew investments worth a combined 2.3 billion reais (US$590 million).

Via Varejo relied on Themudo Lessa Advogados. The seller, retailer Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA), turned to Machado Meyer Advogados, while GPA’s controlling shareholder, Casino, enlisted Souza, Mello e Torres. The deal closed on 14 June.

Klein bought a 1.6% stake in Via Varejo for 101 million reais (US$26 million), which increases the total interest held by the Klein family to 27%. The transaction makes the Klein family its largest single stakeholder.
