Machado Meyer has helped to implement a project involving the installation of photovoltaic panels in pacified communities of Rio de Janeiro. This partnership was facilitated by TrustLaw, a Thomson Reuters program to disseminate pro bono work around the world.

Conceived by Insolar, which seeks to promote democratization of access to solar energy in Brazil, the project was approved in the initial phase of Public Projects Call for Light′s Energy Efficiency Program. The Mundo Infantil day care center, located in Santa Marta, will be the first to receive the panels, so that beneficiaries may reduce their bills through energy generated on the house′s roof. The project further includes environmental education and training of local workforce.

Laura Souza and Felipe Furcolin, from the firm′s infrastructure team, were responsible for assisting in the drafting and negotiation of contracts signed with Light to develop the project.

According to our partner, Eduardo Castro, "it is imperative that the office be increasingly involved in pro bono work. Therefore, the Citizenship Committee encourages and stimulates associates to engage in such causes."
